Lego Student Housing

In stead of starting with the shape of the building this project started by experimenting with the different shapes of a residence. All four group members designed a studio within the established perimeter. By doing this individually the results were various. Due to the different locations of the windows, bathroom and kitchen it was an interesting puzzle to ensure that all facilities fit nicely into the bigger picture. This lead to an very unusual form which lead to the design mostly consisting of facade. In relation to durability and saving energy this is a real disadvantage. Therefore, the enclosed part inbetween the buildingparts is roofed in and enclosed by a glass wall that serves as the front of the building. To prefent this indoor stairwell from turning into a greenhouse during the summer months, the glass wall facade on top three floors are covered with wooden blinds. The angled wooden blinds prevent the sun from heating up the space during summer but doesn't obstruct the winter sun from getting in.

By rethinking the way of design, the result is surprising and inspires to think differently.
